oh hell

I wasn't going to write this story because it seems all the posts I've done (they number in the thousands) are about Alex. Plus, the last one about Alex was about the fall of man and original sin and stuff like that. I didn't really want to follow it up with this story.

This one's for you edp. It's for Steener, too.

No, Alex didn't bring a Viking in his Superman backpack. He brought a rosary. Yes. A rosary. He was scared of kindergarten: He spent the better part of the kindergarten teacher conference under the table. The night before kindergarten, we were in bed reading stories and talking. We fell silent for a while. Then Alex asked for the rosary. I got it down from the nail it hangs on and gave it to him. He said that Mary was like a good ghost and would fly out of the rosary and into his heart. He slept with it and the next morning he put it in his backpack to take to school. The first day of kindergarten was a breeze for him and for us.

We've been calling him Pope Alex ever since.

That is a great story. Five year olds are so innocent. We can learn a lot from little kids. I may have to try that one for when I go interviewing! Thanks!

Good luck interviewing Olekobe.

Big Sky, you've done such a great job helping our Big Guy learn about the Lord. You are a perfect mother...despite what I may have said in our fights from time to time.

I'm so proud of the influence you have on the kid.

Yesterday our little bear asked - half an hour after we woke up - if I would still love him after I'm dead. I think I did alright with my response, but of course this morning (after he was gone) I thought of an important point I left out: that I'll do my best to love him so much while I'm here that he'll be able to feel it forever, no matter what happens. Drat!

One of my big fears is that my answers to questions like this will be so inadequate that he stops bothering to ask them.

You know how Alex likes the Tigers (because they're tigers)? My grandpa used to tell me I was a viking because we're Norwegian, so I wanted a Vikings helmet and my grandparents - ardent Packer fans - got me one. I wore it a lot.

p.s. - Alex is the first kid our dog actually liked.

chris b- you musta made one helluva cute viking. Steener and Joe gave Alex a viking Playmobil set- some of his favorite toys. Jeanz- the good part of having kids is that you can always go back and tell them followup answers. Past and present kind of meld together for them enough to do the followup thang. And, Jeanz, I have a feeling that you love little bear so much and so well that the answers you give him are secondary to the feeling behind them. I'm banking on that theory 'cause love is all I got to offer. Olekobe- GOOD LUCK interviewing!!!!!
Steener- Goebert's Here we come!
Honey- I've got the young years covered. Yer up when he can actually ask hard questions.
